Solar thermal technology is based on concentrating solar radiation to produce steam or hot air, which can then be used in conventional power plants. Pumps and electric motors controlled by variable-speed drives are used throughout the production process.
Pump
The salts (nitrites and nitrates of sodium) melted by the heat from concentrated sun rays flow through the electric pump, with motor controlled by variable-speed drive, to the heat exchanger, where they generate the superheated steam that will activate the turbine.

In thermal power plants, burning coal or coke heats up water and transforms it into steam to spin the turbine. This produces the mechanical energy needed to drive the electrical generator. Water circulates through the boiler under the control of pumps and variable-speed drives.
Ball mill
This process uses an impact and crushing action to grind and mix the particles of coal or coke.

Pump
A pump operated by electric motors and variable-speed drives makes the hot water circulate through the boiler. It is then transformed into steam to activate the turbine.

Power plants of this type generate electricity from a reservoir of stored water that has been heated in the subsoil by natural means. Pumps operated by electric motors with variable-speed drives, which are used throughout the process, help the geothermal water to circulate.
Pumps (fail-safe system)
Pumps operated by electric motors and variable-speed drives makes the hot water circulate through the boiler. This water is extracted from the aquifer via a well and transformed into steam to activate the turbine.

Hydraulic energy is obtained from the kinetic and potential energy generated by a moving stream of water in a process that involves electric motors and variable-speed drives. Electronic drives control the efficiency of the entire process, from the moment in which the water leaves the reservoir to when the turbines are activated to generate electric power.
Generator
The generator transforms the mechanical action of the rotating turbines into electrical energy.
