Power Electronics contributes to the largest photovoltaic plant in Europe

9 April, 2020

  • Power Electronics has begun the commissioning of the 115 HEC V1500 inverters at the solar plant, Núñez de Balboa which is powered by Iberdrola.
  • The plant, with an installed power of 500MW, will prevent the emission into the atmosphere of 215,000 tons of CO2 per year.

Núñez de Balboa, the largest photovoltaic plant in Europe whose construction was completed in the record time of one year, has begun supplying its first MWh of clean energy into the electricity grid. Power Electronics is participating in this project promoted by Iberdrola, with the beginning of the installation of 115 solar inverters HEC V1500 at 690V.

This emblematic plant, located in the province of Badajoz, is composed of 1,430,000 solar panels and an installed power of 500MW, with which 250,000 people will be supplied per year, population equivalent to Cáceres and Badajoz, and the emission into the atmosphere of 215,000 tons of CO2 will be avoided.

This project is part of Iberdrola’s Clean Energy Relaunch Plan in Spain, in which it envisages the installation of 3,000 new MW until 2022. Iberdrola’s forecasts until 2030 point to the installation of 10,000 new MW and job creation for 20,000 people.
