Power Electronics' recycling keys for taking care of the planet

In Power Electronics we bet on the responsibility of products, prevention, recycling, reuse and other ways of waste recovery and disposal. Since 2022 we replace inner packaging with returnable systems that allow saving carton and plastic.

All of our products take into account the entire life cycle for preventing and reducing the environmental impact in any of its stages: design, raw materials, manufacturing, packaging, transport, functioning, maintenance and recycling of the devices.

On the occasion of the Global Recycling Day, we have wanted to highlight the waste management, both inner and external, launching a raising awareness campaign so that those who are part of the company understand the importance of being sustainable at home too.

Do you know how many times different materials are recycled if they are separated correctly?

Each container can be reused and can have a second life. If you recycle properly, placing waste in its appropriate trash can, the containers adapt better to the existent automatic selection plants and adapting them to the recycling processes is easier.

• Paper can be recycled up to 7 times if you place it in the blue trash can.
• Metal can be recycled indefinitely: iron, steel, aluminum, copper, bronze, brass and lead are recyclable metals that can be reused unlimitedly without losing their properties. All of them are materials that are present in our daily life.
• Carton decomposes and each part can be reused if you place it in the yellow trash can. A hydrapulper is used for the complete recycling of these cans. It is a machine where carton is soaked to separate its different layers. After, the paper fiber is separated through filtration, and it can be reused in paper manufacturing.
• Plastic transforms in a new raw material by cleaning, grinding and extruding techniques, such as garbage bags, hangers or pallets.
• According to the World Bank, more than 1,3 trillion tons of garbage are produced annually, being 27% plastic and paper.

In Power Electronics we recycle both plastic and paper. Sin the beginning of 2021, in our production plant we have several clean points, where workers throw waste that has been produced.

Each small action counts and in Power Electronics we bet on the principle “reduce, reuse and recycle”; we avoid plastic bags and opt for cloth bags when new employees join the company.

This is all part of our sustainability strategic plan. We also have a bus for workers to reach the Campus, reducing this way daily emissions in each journey. Our corporate fleet is also 100% electric and we have more than 10 charging points for employees in the Campus. We have also started to electrify the merchandise transport fleet between our workplaces.

In 2022 we eliminated from the Power Electronics' Campus all the single use plastics, which meant a daily saving of 140kg of CO2.

On the occasion of the Global Recycling Day, the company carried out and action where nearly 30 families participated. Thanks to the activities based in “reduce, reuse and recycle”, both parents and kids were able to learn how small recycling actions have an impact in their daily life.

Finding a good planet where to live is complicated. So, why don't we take care of the one we already have?
