Two VS65 electronic soft starters and two XMV660 variable speed drives, all medium voltage equipment, will be responsible for the efficient management of the four turbochargers at the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Galindo, Vizcaya. The turbochargers are part of the aeration system of the plant and are vital for the facility’s increase in demand. Installing soft starters and variable speed drives allows for the injection of oxygen into the wastewater in a progressive manor, leading to biological treatment at maximum efficiency.
The four products are equipped with protection cells and integrated switching allowing for easy installation and uninterrupted operation during maintenance. XMV660 drives have the Power Electronics unique ‘Soft Charge’ allowing direct connection to the network without disruption. The drive receives the start command, performs a sequence for smooth low voltage load, magnetizes the transformer and loads the DC bus cells progressively. The sequence then synchronizes with the grid and the set up is smooth and safe.
The WWTP purifies up to 350,000 cubic meters of waste water which can then be returned to the Ria estuary, one of the most important environmental projects carried out In the Basque Country.
